IFWT_ScaryMovie_5

Goodbye Anna Faris, and hello to new leading lady Ashley Tisdale, of Disney fame.

How does she hold up in comparison? Well you’ll have to find out in this new trailer for the latest installment in the popular horror-comedy franchise, Scary Movie 5 (or Scary MoVie).

The film makes references to several films over the past few years, like previous Scary Movie films do. This movie’s plot focuses on a tie between Paranormal Activity and Black Swan. Sprinkle in some Inception, Final Destination, Fifty Shades of Grey as well as The Hunger Games, and you’ve got an interesting assortment of parodies one can make.

Here is the official trailer for the film, slated for release April 19th, 2013. The film stars Ashley Tisdale, Simon Rex, Erica Ash, Charlie Sheen, Heather Locklear and Lindsay Lohan, to name a few.

Teaser Trailer for Red vs Blue Season 10 revealed

Season 9 of Red vs Blue ended in quite the cliffhanger. You can go and check out my review of the final episode here on my old blog.

Season 10 hopes to finally bring the Freelancer storyline to an end, and through this new teaser trailer, we get a glimpse of the history of the Freelancers developed over the previous 9 seasons of the long-running Halo-based machinima.

Season 10 looks to introduce a familiar face to the cast. Elijah Wood, who played as Frodo Baggins in the popular Lord of the Rings franchise, joins the cast of Season 10 as Sigma, the AI fragment of Agent Maine/The Meta. He is shown at the end of the trailer as a fiery Artificial Intelligence unit, and most likely will serve as one of the main antagonists of the season.

Season 10′s first episode will premeire on May 28th.

The History of RBG (Red/Blue/Green): The Machinima

The definition of a “Machinima”, according to the great Wikipedia.com is as follows:

Machinima (play/məˈʃnɨmə/ or /məˈʃɪnɨmə/) is the use of real-time 3D computer graphics rendering engines to create a cinematic production. Most often, video games are used to generate the computer animation. Machinima-based artists, sometimes called machinimists or machinimators, are often fan laborers, by virtue of their re-use of copyrighted materials.

In simpler terms, with the right technology, equipment, patience and time, you could create your own story within the world of a videogame. One outlet that made machinimas more popular was Rooster Teeth Productions, responsible for the critically-acclaimed science-fiction comedy “Red vs Blue”, based off the popular video game series Halo. The story follows a Red and Blue team who are battling within a box canyon, and neither team knows why or to what avail their battling and existence does for the military. The first episode aired on April 1, 2003. The show was only supposed to last a few episodes, but the success and popularity of the show stretched the show even farther, as the team behind RvB are heading into their 10th season. Although they weren’t the first to make machinimas, they were the main inspiration for what would become RBG (Red/Blue/Green), created by myself, and co-created by Anthony Cusimano and Shanise Stewart.

Originally under the title, Our Attempt at RvB (Red vs Blue), the original show idea followed very closely to Red vs Blue’s storyline, and followed two teams in a box canyon in battle with one another. The show was created solely as an inspiration and fan-fiction, and was to be filmed online on the PC version of Halo, but plans for that fell through when we lacked the technology and time to dedicate towards it. The three of us disbanded writing the show, and the final episode of season 1 (Episode 12: To Infinity and Beyond), was written by myself, and I continued the show for another 2 seasons, and 2 sequel series afterwards.

To go into better detail about the story and characters, Season 1 introduced us to the Red Team, which consisted of Lincoln, Rose, Johnson, and Higgins, and the Blue Team, Innes, Leeroy, Dex, and Johnny, who are met by Captain McCloud, an ex-freelancer, and ex-Prophet whose come to Blood Gulch to finish a prophecy that was sealed in stone more than 500 years ago (fiction- by the original RvB soldiers). The Reds and Blues are taken under the wing of Captain McCloud, being forced to put aside their differences and work together to save the universe from the tyrannical leader of the AI (Artificial Intelligence) Corporation, the corporation responsible for the creation of the original AIs from RvB’s story, and is now working with the Gravemind/Flood to create artificial super-soldiers, and declare world domination. The series spanned 50 episodes and 3 seasons before moving to a new sequel. The original 50 episodes/scripts are available below.

END OF OOARVB SERIES

The end of Our Attempt at RvB was another turning point for the series. It was here that I decided it was best to continue in the direction I had been taking the series since the end of Season 1. No longer could the show be an attempt at another Red vs Blue, but it soon morphed into its own sort of thing. The name RBG came during the turning point in the middle of Season 3, when Innes’ character disbands the Blue Team, starting his own team with three of the AI Spartans that turn against their master and develop identities of their own. Reverend was killed during Episode 41, and then had his body infected by Ric later near the series finale. The remaining three green team members, Orion, Duncan and Digit, stayed with Innes and continued on to RBG as regular series characters. RBG in the color scheme stands for Red-Blue-Green, which represents all three teams, and serves as the extended sequel to the OOARVB series, with 27 episodes in total.

The series continues 1000 years in the future (filmed in Halo 2 universe), as the remaining three teams must reunite back at Command and continue their pursual of Ric, the revealed leader of the AI Corporation and bring him down. The series adapts a new genre of science-fiction-action-dramedy, as is considered to be one of the biggest turning point series of the three, as it also brings to conclusion the end of the AI Corporation as well as the original Reds and Blues.

RBG (Red/Blue/Green):

Episode 1: Recovery

Episode 3: Judge

Episode 4: Survivor

Episode 20: Issues

Episode 21: Blindside

Episode 22: Gathering

Episode 23: Election

Episode 24: Course

Episode 25: Pawn

Episode 26: Package

Episode 27: End

End of RBG Series

Higgins, Orion, Duncan and Digit remain behind with Captain McCloud and Ruby to enlist in the freelancer program in the second sequel series, RBG Z, which delves further into the histories of both AI Spartan Orion, who carries a huge secret that could tear the very fabric of the remaining Freelancers apart, as well as Raine, the business partner of Ric from RBG who carries a much larger connection to the Freelancer tale. The soldiers face off against a new threat, Governor Grady, a corrupt dictator bent on bringing down the Freelancers once and for all. The series also introduces a new squad of Red and Blue soldiers as secondary characters who get caught in the middle of this growing war.

RBG-(Z):

Episode 2: History Lessons

Episode 3: Getting Your Hands Dirty

Episode 16: Split Personality

Episode 17: Breaking out of the Cage

Episode 18: Survival Instincts

Episode 19: Hellfire

Episode 20: On to Bigger and Better Things…

End of RBG-(Z) Series

The series concludes on a rather bittersweet note, as Higgins and returning Blue Team member Johnny are discharged and the new Reds and Blues are sent off to their next location, which is hinted at being Halo: Reach. The show ended and was not continued, until last year, when the series was rebooted, and Carter and I were able to film in-game footage and produce a three-part mini-series called “Squadron 1337 (LEET)”, which followed the original eight soldiers from the Red and Blue armies under command of Captain McCloud in a custom-made mountain base, as the two teams co-mingle and are sent on various missions throughout the galaxy. Although when the fight comes home and the Elites storm the base, Squadron 1337 must band together in order to fight back against the Aliens.

The scripts were lost in limbo, and the only evidence left of this series is in this reveal trailer, that was custom-created to showcase all the work that had been put in last summer to get this done. In the video, I took audio from past videos that included my voice, and the voices of Anthony Cusimano, Adam Pahor, Carter Kee, Ryan Van Bendegem and Matthew Muscat. I hope you enjoy, and thanks for taking this journey down memory lane with me.

Movie Review – 21 Jump Street

Comedy has evolved over many decades of movie-making. What was seen as crude humor during the 80s as National Lampoon has modernized, and has become much more apparent as potty humor. In my opinion, it started with “Superbad”, which starred Jonah Hill, one of the stars of this new film, 21 Jump Street, a takeoff of a popular late 80s crime drama show starring Johnny Depp. Obviously the new film is vastly different from its television counterpart, though they follow a very similar timeline. Without further adew, its on to the review.

21 Jump Street stars Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum as Morton Schmidt and Greg Jenko, two former classmates of two very different social classes who reunite upon entering the police academy seven years after high school. They end up becoming friends and partners throughout the program as they are assigned to park duty after completing police academy. From there, the two fail to stop a group of drug dealers, and the characters are reassigned to join a recently uncovered speciality division down on Jump Street. That’s right, 21 Jump Street.

From there, the two are given the opportunity to make a fresh start, as they are thrown into an undercover operation at their old high school, to stop a new synthetic drug known as N.S.P. from spreading throughout the school by finding the supplier, after a student overdosed and died.

The director(s) are Phil Lord and Chris Miller, well known from their work on Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, as well as the shortlived MTV animated show, Clone High. Now the film was produced by Stephen J. Carnell, co-creator of the original 21 Jump Street television show, so I feel that with him behind the wheel, this movie was definitely kept on track from straying TOO far from its original concept.

Now it’s time to voice my opinions on the film. You ready?

Well I have to say, I actually thoroughly enjoyed this movie. From start to finish, even the theatre was in an uproar of laughter at the hilarity of this movie. At first, I was a little worried during the initial trailer of the movie, because I had heard about the original television show, and long-time fans of the series would probably not have liked to have seen this film generally because they are so unalike. As someone whose never watched the original show, I was still impressed by how well they referenced the show time-and-time again, including special cameos by three of the main characters throughout the movie. I won’t mention when and where.

Newcomers will definitely find something of enjoyment out of this movie, and find some of the characters slightly relatable. Jonah Hill brought to the table what he does best: witty humor, silly antics, and of course being the loser character of the movie. As for Channing Tatum, well known for many romantic drama films, his good looks and fit image made any girls in the movie and in the theatre drool with desire. Of course, Tatum represents the big, dumb jock characters that we’ve all grown to hate over the years, but this movie goes to show how opposites attract, even in the most intense circumstances.

But of course, no good film could go uncriticized, and sadly I do have a few criticisms I feel I must share before the end of this review. I’m still a little surprised that our taste in the style of comedy has dumbed down so much over the years, and of course I feel Superbad set the standard for that with which sex, dicks, gunplay/violence, and so forth makes for a hilarious laugh-out-loud comedy. It’s become a little redundant, in my opinion, which is why this movie is not as “fresh” as everyone makes it out to think it is. Also I feel that the stereotypes of the social classes portrayed in this movie are highly unrealistic, and let me explain:

The two character, portrayed in the year 2005.

The two characters, portrayed seven years later....

The movie begins in 2005, senior year for both Hill and Tatum’s characters. Hill’s character is a shy, dorky geek with braces and random blond hair, while Tatum is the jock with the letterman’s jacket and long, straight hair who gets all the girls. This stereotype has grown to become nonexistent, but what’s worse is that when they fast-forward seven years later to 2012, you lose those stereotypes completely. So now, there are still nerds, but there are no jocks, and what’s portrayed as popular is apparently a mix between environmentalism and hipsterism. I know it seems a little extreme, but there’s absolutely no way that more than decades worth of stereotypes can eventually be flushed out in a matter of seven years. It’s a little farfetched, but that was one of my major complaints for this movie, so you know I don’t completely hate the rest of it.

But above all, I really enjoyed everything else about this movie. Its not a movie I want to watch again right away, mind you, but its definitely a movie that deserves a a standing ovation not only for being a big hit in the box office, but for taking a major chance by going from crime-drama in the 80s, to action-comedy-parody in the year 2012, and still sticking to its roots by returning to old Jump Street and including old character cameos. Definitely a smart move, and if you’re looking for more from these characters, a sequel to the film is already in talks. So let’s just hope that the sequel doesn’t make the same mistakes that most bad sequels to good movies have done in the past.

Final Score: 8.5 out of 10

Two singles from a famous 80s aussie band are coming to Rock Band, and if you haven’t heard of them, then you’ve probably had your head in a ditch for too long.

The Men at Work, or so they say, are bringing their most popular single, “Down Under”, off their 1981 album Business as Usual, which became a staple in the U.S., hitting the top of the charts during the year of its release. As well, you can pick up another successful single, “Overkill” from their 1983 album, Cargo. Both songs cost 160 microsoft points.

And if aussie, punk, pop-ish sounding music just doesn’t cut it, Santana has returned with his catchy hooks and sweet latin jive with a popular radio-hit performed with Matchbox Twenty lead singer Rob Thomas. You can pick up “Smooth” for 160 microsoft points.

New Japanese Avengers trailer reveals more tidbits

You can now add a S.H.I.E.L.D. helicarrier, more aliens, and the lovable Pepper Potts (played by Gwyneth Paltrow) to the list of appearences being made in Marvel’s Avengers film, slated for release in May.

The new Japanese trailer released today is definitely one that warms the bloodstream with excitement and anticipation, as many questions begin to surface. What is the purpose of the “portal” at the beginning of the trailer. Of what race is this alien swarm a part of, and above all, what will the character of Pepper Potts add to the story? Will she remain a damsdrel in distress or perhaps assisting S.H.I.E.L.D. or Tony Stark in any way throughout the movie?

Check out the latest trailer, and be mindful that its half Japanese.

Sherpa’s Guide: Swordfish

Hello my brothers and sisters of the gaming world. The movie Sherpa here again to talk to you about another movie (obviously).  The movie is called “Swordfish”, yes another oldie but a goodie. I first saw this movie when I was a wee laddie, and it has been one of the movies that has fueled my desire to see good cinema. It literally has everything you could want to see in a movie: gun fights, car chases, an awesome plot, and oh yeah, Halle Barry’s boobs. The movie is about a world where secret national organizations work to stop terrorism, but where and how do they get the funds to do that? That’s where this movie gets its filling, they need a hacker to get their fat cash. However when watching this movie, I recommend you pay attention to the plot and what’s happening because if you stop caring for a second, you may end up saying “what just happened?”

File:Swordfish movie.jpg

Swordfish is an action thriller movie made in 2001 by a man named Dominic Sena, whose other notable movies are “Season of the Witch” and “Whiteout”. This movie stars Hugh Jackman as Stanley Jobson, John Travolta as Gabriel Shear, and Halle Berry as Ginger Knowles. This is hands down one of my favorite John Travolta movies because not only is his character the bad guy, but he does it in a way so that no matter what he does you love him for it. Also this movie is Halle Berry’s first topless scene in her career. It also has one of the most interesting opening discussions I have seen to date in a film,  where Travolta’s character Gabriel discusses the state of cinema (namely “Dog Day Afternoon”) and he also goes on to discuss how the rate of current media can process information, such as how quickly people can report news situations and people instantly know around the world. Suddenly, Gabriel stands up with SWAT members pointing their guns at him only to be pacified when Gabriel shows him his bomb trigger.

John Travolta’s character is the head of a secret government organization that literally uses terrorist actions to fight terrorism. He is described in the movie a cold calculating machine that does what he wants when he wants. He attacks all enemies of America, in his words ” They bomb a church, we bomb ten. They hijack a plane, we take out an airport. They execute American tourists, we tactically nuke an entire city. Our job is to make terrorism so horrific that it becomes unthinkable to attack Americans.” As you can imagine, this endeavor is rather costly. Where does he get this money? Well he must steal it and for that he must enlist the help of a hacker by the name of Stanley Jobson.

Hugh Jackman’s character is Stanley Jobson, a single father and an ex-con hacker. He is currently trying to fight to see his daughter but to do that, he needs a lawyer (a very good lawyer) and money (lots and lots of money). To get this money he’s willing to do anything, even hack into databanks that are illegal. This is perfect for Gabriel because it is exactly what he needs to steal a lot of money. He offers Stanley $10 million to write a worm that steals money from a secret government slush fund to the order of $9.5 billion. Which is why Gabriel sends a woman by the name of Ginger to try and convince him to “help out”.

Halle Berry’s character Ginger Knowles is most noted in this movie for wearing slutty outfits, being sexually provocative, and showing off her tits while lounging around (basically the queen of fan-service for men). She is most noted for messing with the audience’s mind as to who she is and what exactly she does. Nonetheless, her role was to convince Stanley to join and stay on Gabriel’s little project right to the end. She is noted for saying “just finish the job, Stanley”.

Anyway the movie is fairly cheap and can be found at most electronic and wholesale retailers for around 5-6 dollars. This is an excellent addition to any collection or even a good cheap flick for movie night. I recommend you buy this movie, you will most likely not regret it.

Anyway, this has been your Sherpa’s guide for the movie, Swordfish. To all my brothers and sisters, keep watching folks.
