Already a growing character in popularity amongst Mario fans, Rosalina will make another guest appearence in the upcoming winter release of Mario Party for the Nintendo 3DS.

As seen in the photo, she appears to be standing on the sidelines on what looks like a Super Mario Galaxy themed board, but it’s unconfirmed if she will be a playable character.

Given that she was a special unlockable character for Mario Party Wii, it goes without saying that Rosalina deserve a spot in the party roster this time around.

Warren Spector hints at Epic Mickey 3 in interview

Epic-Mickey-2-featured-image

In an interview with Red Bull, Warren Spector of Disney Interactive Studios suggested he would like to see the Epic Mickey series continue, but not just talking about Mickey.

His comments suggested he wants to see the universe expanded even further.

“I’d love to see the Disney Epic Mickey series continue – there are plenty of stories still to tell about Wasteland and Oswald the Lucky Rabbit and Mickey Mouse! I’d love to see some Oswald games, where he’s on his own. He deserves a shot at solo stardom. Then there are the ‘duck’ games – Donald, Scrooge, etc – that are just waiting to be made. And a bunch of us at Junction Point have thoughts about Goofy and the Gremlins and a hundred others.”

The interview didn’t end there, with the talks shifting towards Epic Mickey 2′s soundtrack, and how Spector would love to see improvements.

We go a step further, changing the actual orchestration based on how you choose to deal with game challenges.

They’re not interactive – in THIS game – but using songs as storytelling tools seemed necessary for a game that claims to honor Disney’s creative history.

Its all speculation at this point, but so far the Epic Mickey series has proven to be a very colorful adventure game on the Wii consoles, and this writer believes it deserve the Wii U treatment somewhere down the line.

The new Wii Mini comes with everything you see here, and is a complete redesign of the original Wii console at a cheaper price. PHOTO COURTESY FUTURE SHOP

If you’re finally settling in to your new Nintendo Wii U consoles, or you’re looking to get into Nintendo products at a cheap price, a new “smaller” Wii will be made available in December, just in time for Christmas.

For just $99.99, you can get the new Nintendo Wii Mini system on Dec. 7, and Future Shop started accepting pre-orders today, as reported on their website.

The package comes with the smaller console, and a Wii nunchuk with WiiMotionPlus technology. The console has a square frame, with a large Wii logo on the top on a black surface with a glossy finish, and comes with a red casing.

The console is meant to lay flat, so the Wii image faces the ceiling. The console is complete with two triangular buttons on the top; one is a power button, and the other opens the console from the top in order to lay the disk inside.

Bayonetta 2 receiving criticism over its exclusiveness to Wii U

Well we should’ve seen this coming when the game was finally unveiled.

A mixed reaction from fans over PlatinumGames’ decision to run this game exclusively for the Wii U. This could be so that many hard-core fans of the game will be apt to go out and purchase a Wii U come release time in order to step into the boots of Bayonetta yet again.

But where does that leave fans on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 consoles?

A statement from PlatinumGames CEO and President Tatsuya Minami in an article on IGN.com explains why this was the route they took.

“Bayonetta has fans the world over, and we would never dream of alienating them from participating in the future of PlatinumGames.

That being said, the console games market is in a state of upheaval, so establishing a new game franchise requires a considerable amount of will, determination, and love. Bayonetta is a brand that we want to see become stronger, reaching the hands of more and more gamers, so we have continued to consult with SEGA, the previous game’s publisher, on how we can make sure this takes place. Our answer was a new partnership with Nintendo.

Alongside Nintendo, we hope to grow the Bayonetta brand beyond where it stands today, allowing even more gamers around the world to experience the action of our beloved witch.”

No release date has been set for the game, but for those who want to give the game a chance, you better start saving up for a Wii U.

E3 2012: After-thoughts from the Nintendo E3 2012 press conference

Nintendo’s E3 2012 press conference came as no surprise: it was all about the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS. Now that’s not necessarily a bad thing in some cases, but for those expecting one big bucket of surprises, they would be sadly mistaken.

Now off the top was a cutesy cinematic introduction by Shigeru Miyamoto, aka. the Pikmin Master, as he helped to introduce the latest Pikmin title, Pikmin 3. A stunning improvement from its predecessors, Pikmin 3 utilizes to its full capacity the screen-controller of the Wii U and show a world map as well as optional top-down view of the game, while the Wii nunchuks and remote can be used for controlling as well.

Pikmin 3 will definitely be a hit on the Wii U console.

The game introduces four new characters in a 4-player co-operative game. Sadly, Captain Olimar is not present in the video footage, but it is hinted by Miyamoto that the four new characters may be descendants/children of Olimar, which wouldn’t be surprising seeing as how we haven’t seen a new Pikmin title since 2004. A new type of Pikmin class was introduced known as the “rock type”, which can help to break down walls and is used for combat purposes.

Once Nintendo’s Reggie Fils-Aime took to the stage, he began to break down the Wii U and explain how exactly it was going to work, including mention of the console being able to utilize two gamepads, and mentioning how the Wii U will revolutionize players’ living rooms.

Reggie introduced New Super Mario Bros. U, a new title in the Mario universe and the sequel to the console version of New Super Mario Bros., and will contain a wide range of online capabilities tied to the game, including leaving messages, and scores.

Warner Bros. took to the stage to announce Batman: Arkham City Armored Edition and Scribblenauts Unlimited, the first being a new version built specifically to showcase the Wii U game pad’s unique abilities, and the latter is a new installment to the already popular Scribblenauts franchise, allowing for sharing creations with friends over multiple game pads.

A montage came next, showing off games to be expected on the Wii U,  including Mass Effect 3, Aliens: Colonial Marines and Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor’s Edge. Wii Fit U was briefly showcased while a new working title singing game, simply dubbed “Sing”, graced the stage with endless possibility.

Switching over to the Nintendo 3DS, new titles expected for the 3DS come from the popular Mario bros., including New Super Mario Bros. 2, a new game in itself dedicated highly to the collection of gold coins in high capacity, Paper Mario Sticker Star, bringing you back into the flat, yet still 3D environment of Paper Mario as he collects stickers to use in gaining classic weapons such as the hammer and boot ability. And finally, Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon, which is the successor to the 2001 Gamecube classic, Luigi’s Mansion. A handheld trio that’s sure to promise unique, yet familiar gameplay on the 3DS handheld.

Finally to round out the show was three new titles, and one that had already been seen previously at Ubisoft’s conference. The first was LEGO City Undercover, an open-world LEGO title where you work as a cop to solve crimes and bring criminals to justice. It brings LEGO City to life in a way never seen before.

I was intrigued for Zombi U, and the way it controls on the Wii U gamepad puts it close to the top of my most anticipated Nintendo titles.

Zombi U finally gets a quick gameplay demo, and believe me, I was quite intrigued. The game is considered a remake of Ubisoft’s first commerical game, Zombi, back in 1986, but with the Wii U’s game pad, hopes to deliver an edge-of-your-seat experience like never before. Including hacking doors with the game pad, aiming down the barrel of a sniper, scanning areas, and shaking off zombie attacks. Yesterday’s trailer from Ubisoft made me compare Zombi U to an experience like that of Dead Island, and it showed in its emotional, still-motion trailer.

Finally, NintendoLand graced the floor. Seen as a spiritual successor to Wii Sports (but not really, because they’re nothing alike), Reggie convinced audiences that NintendoLand will help players to understand the Wii U and how it performs, much like how players immediately understood how the Nintendo Wii worked upon debut through games like Wii Sports Tennis and Bowling, which still hold up to much of an extent today. NintendoLand hopes to provide fun, exciting mini-games from the likes of Mario, Metroid, Animal Crossing, Wii Sports, Legend of Zelda and Luigi’s Mansion, the latter which was demoed on stage. NintendoLand is a bright, colorful and unique experience that will ship opening day alongside the Wii U.

Photo: Joystiq. The stage was decorated in the style of a theme park to help promote the Wii U’s final hoorah of the conference, NintendoLand.

So even though there were no huge surprises like Ubisoft and Sony provided with their press conferences, Nintendo did what they do best, providing new titles to the core fans, and promoting that there will be something out there for everyone. My hopes lie on the Wii U, and I hope that when it drops this holiday, that it will hold up and be as responsive as it appears to seem.

Super Smash Bros. to head in a new direction

IGN recently sat down with Nintendo’s Masahiro Sakurai about the future of the Super Smash Bros. series, and what direction he expects to take when developing a new sequel for next-gen platforms.

Since its arrival on the Nintendo 64 in 1999, the Smash Bros. series has followed a carefully similar trend over the course of three titles and three consoles. With the inclusion of new items, new characters, new stages, homages to classic stages, unique storylines and the edition of third-party characters and a stage creation option, the Smash Bros. series follows in the fashion of hit Nintendo titles like Pokemon and the Legend of Zelda, who need only to build off of what appears to be a perfect formula for a videogame. But Sakurai says he wants to change his direction.

“There is a certain dead end we come to if we just expand the volume of the game,” said Sakurai in an e-mail to IGN. “I intend to change direction a little as we go. The key to that’s going to be its dual support for 3DS/Wii U.”

So of course, this doesn’t necessarily mean the end to a continually expanding roster, stages and other extra features, but Sakurai is definitely expressing his interest in cross-connection between console and handheld.

“I’m really just getting started on this so it’s going to take time, but I’ll come up with something that uses that link as the game’s central axis, so I hope you’re looking forward to it.”

So its too early to really know what his true intentions are for the game, or at least the main issue of the minds of many fans, “who’s coming to Smash Bros. next?”
